Rubens als Buchkünstler.
Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) is world-famous as a painter for the opulence of his paintings. He was also active as a book artist and created illustrations, title pages and publisher's signets. His pictorial inventions, which are directly related to the content of the books, are absolutely outstanding, but to date they have hardly received the attention they deserve.
The catalog designed at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart now presents all 58 book art works together for the first time. The books are recorded bibliographically and described in detail, the titles are translated, and often the number of copies printed and the original sales prices are documented. In addition, the sometimes complicated image programs on the title pages are clearly explained with reference to further reading.
208 pages with numerous illustrations. Cardboard tape.
